If we apply the current life expectancy of 78 years to those recent newborns, it suggests that Californias population will only be about 42 million without immigration at the turn of the next century. We had 37 million residents in the last census.
The 20-year decline in California births and increasing out-migration of employers now requires scare tactics to motivate current residents to accept higher taxes. For years, we were told that public K-12 enrollment was increasing. The truth is that it has llen by 105,000 since 2004-05. It would be even worse, but they have absorbed nearly 140,000 new students as private schools plummeted even ster in the last decade.
We are told that classrooms are being overwhelmed with students, but the calculated ratio of students per teacher only rose from 20.8 to 21.7 last year less than one student per classroom.
