Ill bet our Wildcat football players know how to enjoy a cheeseburger or two or three after working hard at winning another CIF Championship. Well do the rah-rah thing tonight, Jan. 12, as we honor their success in winning the title two years in a row. A parade of the players and coaches will move from the high school campus going east on Colorado, then turn north on Myrtle to join a rally in Library Park. Parade begins at 5 p.m. Wear your greens.
Please make those reservations no later than Jan. 19.
may not fit well after indulging myself, I must fit the latest calendar news into this column because Monrovia in January is about a lot more than cheeseburgers. You can pile on lettuce, ketchup, onions, pickles, a fried egg — whatever you like, but the base meal is a meat patty and a slice of cheese in a bun. No condiments needed. But here in town, there are lots of add-ons to bulk-up your calendar.
The Monroe Award, honoring an outstanding businessperson, will go to Rudy Castrellon of Rudys Mexican Restaurant. Rudy has really stepped-up his efforts to build a vibrant retail community in Monrovias Old Town.
Finally, theres a new idea to which I can fully relate. Cheeseburger Week!

There really is no such thing as a dietetic cheeseburger. It is what it is in its purest form. Fatteningly yummy.
The downside of eating cheeseburgers is, obviously, the added poundage. Or tonnage.
In order to honor Pasadenas visionary designation of Cheeseburger Week, I will celebrate by having another one at Pie n Burger on California. Yeah, I know, Im taking sales tax out of Monrovia, but hey, the best is the best. I owe it to myself to do this, [adult school] Christchurch Womens Prison (0) 2011-12-27 14:38:17 what with it now being official and all. Hope I can get a seat at the counter.
Health concerns? Yep, if exercise is not a part of your regimen.
And the Dick Lord Award, named for a volunteer who has given remarkable service to the Chamber of Commerce, will go to Gloria Huss of Monrovia Floral. Gloria is a longtime volunteer and store owner, serving on many Chamber committees over the years. She keeps giving unselfishly to keep the Monrovia business community strong.
That same week, on Friday, you can join the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce members and friends as they honor three outstanding volunteers who do a tremendous job of helping our residents and city in so many ways. The annual Iris Award, designating our Citizen of the Year, will be given to longtime volunteer Karen Sutherland for her tireless work with the Boys and Girls Club, Monrovia Schools Foundation and Childrens Hospital Guild among others.
Tuesday, Jan. 24, you can hear Mayor Mary Ann Lutz give us the scoop on the State of the City. Its a reservations only evening, and you can reserve your place by calling 626-303-6600. Call soon as the limited seating fills quickly at the Krikorian Theater venue. The mayor speaks at 7 p.m.
If youre looking to travel abroad this spring or summer, you can get a new passport or renew the one you have from Monrovia City Hall. New hours for the passport service are Monday through Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m., and Friday, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Hmmm. I wonder if they serve cheeseburgers in Hamburg, Germany?
ADD-ONS
Perhaps Ill have to begin a new trend at such afirs — the cheeseburger as appetizer!

I note that the Chambers event includes dinner at the DoubleTree and it lls the week after Cheeseburger Week. Probably a tad too ncy an evening for serving the treat.
Charlotte Schamadan: Cheeseburger Week upon us? monrovia adult school,According to the latest Charlotte Schamadan: Cheeseburger Week upon us? monrovia adult schoolreports, the first cheeseburger was invented (concocted? cooked? dreamed up?) in nearby Pasadena back in the 40s at an eatery called The Rite Spot.
Even though my jeans
In the best news yet to hit January, Cheeseburger Week is officially proclaimed by whomever designates such things for celebration from Jan. 15-20. I consider it no small feat that the official designation lls during the week that I shall also be celebrating my birthday.
There is no official tally as to the number of cheeseburgers I have actually consumed, but trust me when I say its likely in the millions, and I aint talkin McDonalds. At least as many as Monrovia Councilman Joe Garcia has consumed. Hes as much a connoisseur of the cheeseburger as I am.
